motorcheck™ is leading the insurance industry's fight back against fraudulent vehicle insurance applications. A recent report from RAC Financial services claimed that 1 in 10 motorists lie in their applications to insurance companies in order to keep premiums down. The practice costs the insurance industry in lost revenue and can lead to invalid insurance for motorists.

The vehicle inspection service has been operating for the UK's leading insurers for over two years. motorcheck™ inspectors are sent to new policy holders' homes to confirm the details motorists declare on their insurance applications, such as whether the car is kept in a locked garage overnight.

The inspection service is performed within days of policy inception and has been used by direct insurers and underwriters with broker networks.

The service reports driver and vehicle details as well as overnight parking arrangements. Internal and external vehicle condition is recorded including wheels tyres, plus location and extent of any damage, modifications or corrosion.

Other particulars checked are MOT and road tax validity, plus details of any audio, multimedia, satellite navigation and security systems fitted. Vehicle driver data is also recorded such as driving licence particulars and endorsements.

The motorcheck™ inspection service is not only used to verify driver details for the clarification of underwriting risk and reduced exposure to potential fraudulent repair claims. It is also used to identify fraudulent practice such as "fronting" – where a parent declares they are main driver of what is in fact their child's car in order to avoid their child having to pay the relatively high cost typically associated with young driver insurance premiums.
